In the beginning

Frederick Victor Davis founds the company that still carries his name, to service the electrical needs of fast-growing industries and development in the Hunter region of New South Wales.

Early days

Following phenomenal growth, Davis & Spence opens a showroom in Hannell Street, Newcastle and quickly becomes the city’s leading supplier of domestic, commercial and industrial lighting. The retail store incorporates a trade counter to manage the specialist needs of tradespeople and contractors.

Moving forward

Davis & Spence is awarded the first of numerous exclusive distributor contracts from national and international manufacturers of technically-advanced and innovative electrical and mechanical controls.

Major partnerships founded

The company establishes major contracts with American and Japanese refrigeration manufacturers and becomes a leading supplier of industrial and commercial refrigeration components.

Innovation

Davis & Spence invests in a sophisticated online inventory and accounting system that’s linked across branches, to provide customers with even more convenience coupled with shorter delivery times.

Enhancing Memberships

Membership of the Combined Wholesalers Group gives Davis & Spence the buying power of a large national operator, but with the flexibility and versatility of an independent wholesaler. Other value-added memberships follow including founding membership of Electrolink Australia.

Modern facilities and old school expertise

Today, Davis & Spence is a multi-awarding winning organisation with three showrooms / trade centres in Newcastle and the Hunter region, an online catalogue servicing contractors across the country, and part ownership of a refrigeration and air conditioning wholesale company in Wollongong NSW.

We boast the industry’s highest proportion of technically-qualified personnel and are still proudly Australian and family owned.
